An introduction to Haggai

Have you ever had to give up something you wanted in order to gain something more valuable? God asked his people in the days of Haggai to stop worrying about their own houses and rebuild his temple even through these were uncertain days. No king, no walls, no temple, small crops, and not much of a city. Jerusalem was a mess, and worst of all, they had brought the Lord’s discipline on themselves, falling a long way from the glory days of kings David and Solomon. How did God’s chosen people find themselves in this state? Why did God even want another temple, and how on earth did God use the Persian Empire and Cyrus, a pagan king, to facilitate the rebuilding of his holy place? The prophet Haggai gave four short sermons that would turn the nation on its head. Watch Haggai Field Study 1 to get the back story of this amazing turn of events.
