Epoch 8

The Messiah:

from birth to resurrection

3 BC to AD 33

Epoch 8 of Tracing His Story brings us to the long-awaited fulfillment of God’s redemptive promises. The silence of centuries is shattered by a voice crying out in the wilderness. A prophet appears, calling the people to repentance. And from Nazareth, a carpenter’s son steps into the Jordan River—not to confess sin, but to fulfill all righteousness. The Messiah has come.

The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God.

Mark 1:1

This epoch unfolds in the pages of the Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—each painting a distinct yet unified portrait of Jesus Christ. These are not merely biographies. They are proclamations. They announce with clarity and conviction that Jesus is the Christ, the Anointed One, the Son of the Living God, and the fulfillment of every prophetic hope.

The story begins not in a palace, but in obscurity. Born in Bethlehem, raised in Nazareth, Jesus emerges from the margins to transform the world. His baptism by John marks the divine endorsement of his mission. The heavens are torn open. The Spirit descends like a dove. A voice thunders: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” [Mark 1:11]

Jesus is not just another prophet. He is the fulfillment of all prophecy. He proclaims the arrival of the kingdom of God and backs his message with astonishing authority—healing the sick, calming storms, casting out demons, and even raising the dead. But his power is always paired with compassion. He dines with sinners, touches the outcast, and offers living water to the thirsty.

Every moment in the Gospels reveals his identity. He is the promised King from the line of David. He is the suffering Servant foretold by Isaiah. He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. From his miracles to his parables, his every word is weighted with eternal significance.

The religious elite—threatened by his authority and unmoved by his grace—challenge him at every turn. Yet Jesus does not come to fit their expectations. He comes to fulfill the Father’s mission. And as the prophets before him were rejected, so too is the Son. His path leads not to an earthly throne, but to a Roman cross.

And yet, even the cross is not defeat. It is the very reason he came. The Gospels crescendo at Calvary, where Jesus bears the weight of humanity’s sin. And on the third day, the silence of death is broken. He rises. The tomb is empty. The Messiah lives.

Epoch 8 invites us to see Jesus not simply as a historical figure, but as the centerpiece of all history. He is the fulfillment of the law, the hope of the prophets, the light breaking into darkness. Every shadow cast in the Old Testament finds its shape in him. Every longing heart finds its answer.

This is the good news. The Messiah has come. His name is Jesus.
